Breast Cancer Awareness Month<\/h2>\n

As you probably know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Several years ago, I started doing some work for The Care Project, a non-profit organization that is doing some great work helping Southern California breast cancer sufferers and survivors. A few weeks ago, Carrie Madrid, (who helms The Care Project,) contacted me about doing a photo-session with Thelma, one of their survivors. Thelma was diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 29, which resulted in a double mastectomy. Thankfully, she has been cancer-free for several years and has even gone on to give birth to her son Jesse. Thelma is on track to have cosmetic reconstruction surgery and wanted to do this session to give some hope to other survivors and to memorialize her own triumph over the cancer.
\nFor the photo session, I wanted to honor Thelma’s desire to show off her scars, but still keep the images tasteful and respectful. Thelma was great in front of the camera and we did a number of different poses, including some great images of her with her son Jesse.
